G Is for Gobble, Gobble

Snacks that start with G - Gobble, Gobble snack

The holidays are just around the corner, and this adorable turkey snack from our ABC Snacks series is a perfect way to begin your family’s feast.

In fact, our Gobble Gobble Turkey Snack is the best kind of snack–healthy, beautiful, and delicious. And what makes it even better is that your children can help you prepare the whole thing!

A couple of cute helpers helped us create the colorful turkey in our pictures, and I’m pretty sure I heard a few gobble-gobbles coming from the kitchen as our little friends worked!

It will add just the right touch to your Thanksgiving or Christmas festivities! But you may find that you don’t want to wait until the holidays to give this snack a try…it can be enjoyed all year long!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this snack for two children:

  • ½ cup of hummus
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 2-3 halved cherry tomatoes
  • 1 small olive

Directions:

  1. Spread hummus on plate to form your turkey’s head and body.
  2. Cut a stalk of celery into four 4-inch pieces.
  3. Position 4 celery sticks to form the turkey’s tail feathers.
  4. Chop carrots, red and yellow peppers, and tomatoes into bite-size pieces.
  5. Fill space between tail feathers with chopped celery, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, and remaining celery.
  6. Position two small strips of carrot to form the turkey’s feet.
  7. Use carrot and pepper pieces to form the turkey’s beak and caruncle.
  8. Form the turkey’s eye with a small piece of olive.

I do a “Fun with Food” with my students every week, correlating with the letter of the week. ” G is for gobble ” was perfect during the month of November when we were studying G g. Some of them had never tried hummus and it was a big hit!

I made this with my preschooler the week before Thanksgiving. We made it as a full size veggie platter and served it at dinner. I used a heart shaped bowl as the body and another small oval dish for the head to hold the hummus.

Robin E.
