In A Sick Day for Amos McGee, husband-and-wife writing team Philip C. and Erin E. Stead collaborate to bring you a delightful tale of loyalty and friendship.
Every morning, zookeeper Amos McGee swings his legs out of bed and exchanges his plaid pajamas and bunny slippers for a freshly pressed uniform before boarding the number five bus for the City Zoo.
And as always, Amos’s animal friends are always waiting for him.
It doesn’t matter how busy Amos McGee is at work, he always makes time for his friends—sitting quietly with shy Penguin, playing chess with Elephant, and lending Rhinoceros a handkerchief when his allergies flare up.
But one day Amos McGee wakes up with a case of the sniffles and can’t go to work.
The animals at the City Zoo miss their friend, so they board the number five bus to visit Amos and cheer him up. Perhaps Amos’ friends can be the cure for what’s ailing him. After all, true friends can always make you feel better.
