Here at All About Learning Press, we’re kind of partial to penguins! In fact, we think penguins are so awesome that we decided to create an extra special pack of penguin activities to share with you.
The Penguin Pack contains 30 printable pages of reading and spelling activities that are positively popping with penguins.
We’ve included fun-filled reading and spelling practice for all ages and levels, penguin snack recipes, an easy-to-assemble penguin facts booklet, and a penguin-themed picture book list! That’s a LOT of penguins!
Ready for some penguin fun? Download your Penguin Pack now!
Help your child gain pre-reading and beginning reading and spelling skills. With the activity suggestions in The Penguin Pack, your child can practice letter knowledge, handwriting skills, and letter sounds with some help from these cheerful penguins. Uppercase and lowercase letters are included.
Word search puzzles are a fun way to practice reading and spelling skills, as well as a great way for children to have fun with words. There are seven full-color sheets of word searches that correspond to specific levels of All About Reading and All About Spelling.
In this activity, your child can practice an important reading skill by matching pairs of rhyming words. There are four skill levels included, plus a sheet of blank penguins on which your child can practice spelling words.
What do rockhoppers, macaroni, and chinstraps have in common? They’re all penguins, of course! In fact, there are many different species of penguins, from small to large. In this activity, your child can explore sixteen penguin species and make his very own 18-page penguin fact book.
Warm up and enjoy a yummy lunch with the penguins! Chili, cheese, and crackers—it’s the perfect meal for a blustery day. Your penguin-loving little ones will have almost as much fun making this hands-on lunch as they will have eating it!
Here is a list of a few of our favorite picture books that feature—you guessed it—penguins! But these are no ordinary penguins. On the pages of these fun books, you’ll meet a lost penguin, a dancing penguin, and even a penguin who wants to learn to fly!
As you can see, there are hours of learning and fun in The Penguin Pack. But that’s not all! We’ve got even more!
Penguins live in a variety of places all over the world, but they nearly always stay south of the Equator. Penguins can be found in parts of Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Africa. Using a world map or globe, locate all the places where penguins live. If desired, mark the locations on the map with penguin stickers.
The largest species of penguin is the Emperor, which stands about 4 feet tall. The smallest species of penguin is the Little penguin, which is about 12 inches tall. Using a measuring tape, mark off two spots—one at 12 inches and one at 48 inches—on a wall or a large piece of poster board. Measure a variety of household objects—or even the family pet!—and compare them to the size of the Little and Emperor penguins.
After the female Emperor penguin lays an egg, the male Emperor penguin keeps it warm by balancing it on his feet for 64 days. Try to balance a plastic toy egg or a small stuffed toy on your feet. Waddle around the house like a penguin and see how far you can get without dropping your egg.
It gets very cold where Emperor penguins live; the average temperature is -4° Fahrenheit. Find the -4° mark on the outdoor thermometer at your house. Now compare your current temperature to the -4° mark. Do you think it is cold enough for Emperor penguins to be happy in your neighborhood?
Penguins are known for their distinctive black-and-white coloring. Have a “dress up as a penguin” day! Pull out black-and-white clothing items and spend the day feeling like a penguin.
If winter gets you down, this collection of penguin-packed picture books is the perfect pick-me-up. But don’t take our word for it–grab a few of these books and see for yourself!
Our E Is for Emperor’s Eggs blog post provides two activities in one! It’s a yummy way to teach the letter E and a recipe for an easy-to-assemble snack…all at the same time.
Though technically not a penguin game, it does have penguins in its name, right? And Pickles to Penguins is a great way to build language skills! It’s a fast-paced game the whole family will enjoy!
