When you open the new color edition of All About Reading, you’ll find some things that look different.
The Teacher’s Manuals have all been updated with 50+ pages of new material per level including expanded “Preparing to Teach” material and appendices, LOTS of brand-new teaching tips, and even more hands-on learning activities than before. All these features were designed to help make your job as a teacher easier than ever. (Click to see a sample from one of the All About Reading Color Edition Teacher’s Manuals.)

says:I’m late to the conversation here, but I’m curious what happened to the principle that the readers had black and white images to purposefully help kids focus on the actual reading? I used the program with my 15 year old and loved it. Now I’m looking at the program again years later and am really surprised at the decision to use color. Does it seem to affect kids when reading? Are there still activities for them to color (just as another level of engagement)?
Robin
says: Customer ServiceChris,
Great questions.
It’s been five years since the Color Edition of All About Reading was released and we have had a lot of feedback on it. Students have not found the color illustrations distracting, and it doesn’t take their focus away from the reading. Quite the contrary, they have found them more engaging and motivating, encouraging reading to find out what is happening!
Other than the Pre-Reading Level, All About Reading’s activities were generally not meant for the child to color. I do know that some children colored some of the black-and-white activities because they wanted to do so, but most children didn’t want to do coloring every day. In the Color Edition, there won’t be coloring for a child to do in the activities, but the activities themselves are very engaging. You can look through the samples of the Activity Books to see the sorts of things they contain.
The feedback we have received from the Color Edition of All About Reading has been overwhelmingly positive!

says:When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Thank you!
Robin
says: Customer ServiceWhen you receive an email about a new comment, look on the email (typically near the bottom) for an “unsubscribe” link. This will remove you from receiving such updates.

says:I tried two other curriculums for my son before finding AAR. I was reluctant at first because it was more expensive than other sets. However, he has learned so much this past year. He was frustrated and struggled daily with the other curriculum. I am amazed by how far he has come. He struggled to read 3-letter words at the beginning of the year and now he is ready full stories in the color edition book. Every story has been engaging and he loves examining the pictures on each page.

says:We are loving level 1! Can we buy student books unbound? It would save so much time if the student pages didn’t have to be pulled out of the book. Also is there a possibility of a spiral bound teaching manual?
Robin E.
says: Customer ServiceAt this time we do not have our materials available unbound or spiral bound. However, office supply stores such as Staples and Office Depot can cut off the bindings and spiral bind materials for you, and from what I understand, it is not expensive to have them do so.
We are looking into offering materials with other binding options, but we don’t anticipate them being available any time soon.
Megan
says:Why didn’t pre-reading get the colour update?
Robin E.
says: Customer ServiceMegan,
Good question. The Pre-reading level has a different format than the other levels. The Pre-reading Activity Book is designed to be color, painted, glittered, and more. It wouldn’t really work in color. The rest of the program is to read by the parent to the child, so color would have less impact for the student. However, it may be updated to color sometime in the future.
Sarah
says:Are there plans to make the pre reading level in color and if so how soon? Thank you!
Robin E.
says: Customer ServiceSarah,
We have no plans to make the Pre-reading level in color within the next couple of years, and after that, I don’t know.
