“Learn About Butterflies” – A Fun Activity and Craft!

Turn reading or spelling practice into a work of art!

Practice makes perfect, and this engaging hands-on activity is the perfect way to practice reading and spelling lesson words. The world’s most beautiful butterflies are ready to flutter into your home, so let’s get going before they fly away!

Instructions for “Learn About Butterflies”

  1. Download and print the butterfly illustration cards.
  2. Cut out the reading or spelling cards for the level you wish to practice.
  3. Print out the “Where in the World?” butterfly chart with fun facts about each butterfly. Build your butterfly art collection with every correct answer.

Playing “Learn About Butterflies”

Spread out the butterfly cards on the floor or table. Have your child read aloud the word on each card she flips or write the spelling word you dictate.

Once your collection is complete, have your child find each matching butterfly on the chart. Share the name, habitat, and fun fact about that butterfly with your child.

Turn Learning into Art!

Here are three more ideas:

  1. Create a colorful mobile and display it in your child’s room or your teaching space. Hang it in a location with a slight draft or blow on the mobile to make your butterflies flutter together while they hover overhead.
  2. Make a coffee table book by preserving your exotic butterfly collection in a binder with page protectors or make a shadow box to showcase her favorites.
  3. Get creative! How else can you display these beautiful illustrations in a way that creates a lasting memory and fosters a love for learning?

Share your butterfly art creation with other homeschool parents. We would love to see your child’s masterpiece too! Please share your photos with us on social media and check out other works of art created by All About Learning students from around the world.

We would love to hear about your experience with this artful activity. Add a comment below!

Oh my goodness, what a clever idea! I’m so new to homeschooling and sometimes I’m not sure what activity to make. I love this blog teaches about reading and spelling with creativity. This activity can easily count towards Social Studies, Science, ELA, and Math by counting the butterflies. Love, love this suggestion.
