H Is for Hippopotamus Craft

H Is for Hippo ABC Craft

Some kids want a hippopotamus for Christmas, but your little one can have fun with this hippo anytime! Download the template for this letter H craft and say hello to your very own happy hippo—no holiday required.

Here’s What You’ll Need

Instructions for Assembling Your Letter H Craft

  1. Print the H Is for Hippopotamus Craft templates.
  2. Cut out the templates and trace the letter H and the hippo’s head, feet, ears, and teeth onto card stock.
  3. Cut out the letter H and the hippo pieces.
  4. Glue the letter H and the hippo pieces onto a full sheet of card stock (we used green, but you can use any color you like) to form a hippo.
  5. Affix two googly eyes to the hippo’s head.
  6. Use a marker to draw the hippo’s nostrils and ear details (see sample on the template for placement).

Robin E.

says: Customer Service

Anita,
I completely understand! My “baby” is 10, but these crafts make me want to borrow a preschooler. I have been sharing the links with my friends that have preschoolers, however.

The Sound /H/ as an English phonogram is voiced, but in Spanish in unvoiced (it is a silent H). so great to learn how to read by sounds. I love phonograms. ENGLISH is not my first language, but when I discovered this method give logic to the understanding of the language, I’m in love.

Robin E.

says: Customer Service

Lindsay,
Now that my students all have a good mastery of English they are learning Spanish. Silent H and J saying /h/ and other differences between English and Spanish have been tricky for them. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to go the opposite way, from Spanish to English. English has so many sounds that are spelled multiple ways and so many phonograms that have multiple sounds.

Thank you for letting us know that learning English phonograms has made learning English more logical and understandable.

Amy

says:

This looks fun!

Robin E.

says: Customer Service

Amy,
I see what you mean! Still, if the hippo was too fat the H would be hard to decern.

Amie

says:
