Arianna
says:Will it be easy to transition into this version if we have been using the original for the first three levels?
Robin
says: Customer ServiceGreat question, Arianna. The answer is yes!
Here is what you need to know to transition from the First Edition Level 3 to the Color Edition Level 4:
You will be able to transition without any gaps in concepts.
1. You won’t need to keep any of the Phonogram, Sound, or Rule (Key) Cards. The Color Edition of All About Spelling Level 4 will include all of the Levels 1, 2, and 3 cards your student will review.
2. Note that the Rule (Key) Cards will be a bit different. These were reworded to be easier to learn, and each rule also now has a title. All About Spelling Level 4 Color Edition will include the Rule Cards from Levels 1, 2 and 3 and will review them in the first lesson. The concepts are the same, so these that will be review for your student, but the wording will be different. So, spend as much time practicing these Rule Cards as your student needs before moving into All About Spelling Level 4, Lesson 2.
3. If your student has a few Word Cards from Level 3 that are still behind the “Daily Review” tab, keep these in the box and continue practicing them until they are mastered.
4. Syllable Division Rule #3 now has a “Part 2.” You will find this “Part 2” addition on the Syllable Division Rule Chart in Appendix F of the Color Edition All About Spelling Level 4 Teacher’s Manual. You will want to review this addition with your student.
5. Due to customer feedback, we are gradually switching our materials to a new style of syllable tags. However, you may have the older style of syllable tags from the First Edition of All About Spelling Levels 2 and 3. Here is how the two styles match up:
– Name Game and the Vowel-Consonant E tile represent the same syllable type.
– Bossy R and R-Controlled are the same type
– Pickle and Consonant-LE are the same type.
I hope this helps, but overall, I think you will find the transition fine! Still, we are always available for questions if anything comes up.
